Valve Regulated Lead Acid Battery(VRLA)is a mainstream DC power plant used in power grids with advanced features compared to other types of batteries,such as maintenancefree and high discharge performance.As a backup power supply system widely used in substation,its operating state directly affects the security and stability of power grid.Based on the analysis principle and descriptive research method of the battery used in Zhanjiang power grid,this paper proposes the on-line monitoring system of the battery which is suitable for Zhanjiang power grid.Several factors affecting the conductance/ internal resistance of the battery are analyzed by using experimental data.This paper focuses on two kinds of internal resistance testing techniques(DC discharge method and AC discharge method)and expound advantages and limitations of internal resistance.On the other hand,the paper analyzes the internal mechanism and external factors which will accelerate the aging process.Then we find out the two key points that affect battery life in zhanjiang power grid: operating environment temperature,floating charge voltage,and determines the five key features that should be monitored on the on-line monitoring system.Considering the test modules of five key features,the paper proposes the VRLA on-line monitoring system based on the network TCP/IP protocol.Finally,the application of several on-line monitoring devices in zhanjiang power grid is introduced,including real-time monitoring,historical data inquiry,state evaluation,charging and discharge monitoring,are emphasized,which is able to realize the remote centralized monitoring and management of the battery group.Considering the backward status of the existing means of operation,this paper combines the system of battery parameters with the network computer monitoring system.The development of on-line monitoring system of battery greatly reduces the maintenance cost of battery,improves the performance and reliability of battery,and has significant effect.
