The urban transport is the basic skeleton of the city. And the road network is the basicskeleton of traffic. With the rapid growth of the traffic demand, the density of urban roadnetwork is much denser. The increasing road resource is still unable to solve the urbantraffic problem. To solve traffic problems not only the road network system be improved, but also the grade proportion should be reasonable. Reasonable grade proportion of theroad network can improve the service level of the traffic and the efficiency of the roadnetwork, save land resources and construction funds, give full play to the effectiveness ofroad network system. However, which kind of road network is reasonable? Which kind ofnetwork structure is better adapted to urban transport? These are waiting for deeply study. As the traffic problem in big cities are more prominent, the study of road networkgrade proportion mainly took big cities’ road network as research object, and the mediumand small cities has been little involved in. With the economic development of small andmedium cities, traffic problems will become increasingly apparent. It is valuable andpractical to do the research on grade proportion of small and medium cities’ road network. This thesis took "supply and demand balance" as the basic theory, analyzed thecharacteristics of the traffic and road system of medium and small cities deeply. Combinedwith the relevant theory of urban road grade proportion and the road priority, this thesis setthe network supply model based on analysis of the rate of different traffic modes ondifferent grades of road, and based on the contribution of different modes to set trafficdemand model. The basic model of the road network grade proportion put the minimumsupply of urban road resources as the objective function. This thesis took Ezhou City forexample, analyzing Ezhou urban road network layout and traffic travel features, allocatedthe model parameters, and got the result of Ezhou’s grade proportion based on this modelto verify the correct method of this study and the content of the research has practicalsignificance and application value.
