Point supported glass curtain wall with single cable supporting system hasadvantages of high transparency and light weight, with this structure type, thestable cable, the horizontal cable, and the connection between the cablestructures are not required, the steel can therefore be greatly reduced, makingpossible a lower cost and a faster construction. As an emerging technology, thesingle cable supporting system for point supported glass curtain wall has beenapplied in number of projects, but its theoretical studies are still at the initialstage.The present thesis is based on a real project, a comprehensive numericalstudy, including design analysis, dynamic analysis under earthquake and wind,tension control of cable structure and its influence to boundary structure, isperformed for point supported glass curtain wall with single cable supportingsystem. The main contributions are summarized as follows:(1)Four different finite element models considering the influence betweenglass panel and supported structure, curtain wall structure and the main structureare created, and its studied by adjusting node constraint ability which isrepresented by spring element in the numerical model,the glass panel has acertain contribution to the stiffness of the glass curtain wall. The rationality ofthe models is discussed by comparing the numerical results predicted bydifferent models.(2)A parametric study is performed to investigate the static bearingperformance of the glass curtain wall with single cable supporting system.Different parameters are considered consisting of cable prestressing force, cablediameter, cable span length, glass size, and the load.(3)Suitable seismic waves are selected and a seismic analysis is performedafterwards for the real project. The dynamic response of the curtain wallstructure under the earthequake waves is predicted and compared with theresults predicted by the static method and seismic response spectrum methodwhich are given in the curtain wall code and seismic design code; A windinduced vibration time history analysis is performed and compared with the result given by the static method according to the curtain wall code.(4)The construction process control of the cable structure is analyzed usingthe finite element method. A stability buckling analysis considering the mostdisadvantageous local components of the boundary structure is performed.The suitable computation models and methods for point supported glasscurtain wall with single cable supporting system are suggested, which canbecome the reference to similar projects and has a high practical value for theengineering design.
