The emergence of synthetic material–which is usually known as plastic-brings much more opportunities to better building performance and morefinished architecture. This paper focus on the innovative applications ofsynthetic material in building fa ade. The author introduces the basic elements,design properties, products, as well as applying cases, and research more byapplying some plastics into practice.Firstly, PVC, PC, PMMA, ETFE and GRP are took as examples to give anintuitive image of plastic’s applications in building area. And then, tens of caseswere divided into several categories by application fields, and are carefullystudied, thus forming a fully understand of plastic’ application in buildingfacade. And finally follows the research in the project of Pinggu House-1, inwhich the author try lots of methods to give a “plastic” answer to the designproblems.From the point of architecture design study, this paper make a brief studyinto the fa ade application of synthetic material, attempt to make some practices,and finally draw some conclusions, which I believe has some value on theinnovative application of plastic in building fa ade.
