As mountainous highway opened to traffic in China, the high energy consumption oftunnel lighting is becoming increasingly prominent. For xi’an-hanzhong highway in Shaanxiprovince, medium and short tunnel still practiced in manual control mode. Therefore, themedium and short tunnel lighting energy-saving has become the urgent problem of theoperation department. This dissertation based on the system of the Muguayuan tunnel, whichaimed to explore the optimal program of the medium and short tunnel lighting energy systemin expressway.This paper described the concepts and features of the medium and short tunnel lightingsystem, as well as factors and parameters which impact on the short tunnel lighting, also thispaper put forward some problems of the medium and short tunnel lighting system and someenergy saving strategies. According to the actual operations and situation of the Muguayuantunnel lighting, this article put forward automatic lighting control technology that based onPLC in the short tunnel. This system only detected the L20(S) real-time luminance value of theuplink-line’s entrance, then the luminance value of the downlink-line’s entrance was dealt asa linear function of the L20(S) real-time luminance value of the uplink-line’s entrance, thusthis system have three control methods: automatic control, timing control, manual control.This system used Schneider TwidoSoft3.5software to make PLC programming.This system achieved a goal of the real-time control and unmanned guarding on-site.This paper made an evaluation on the rationality and security parameters of automatic controlmode of the energy-saving lighting system of medium and short tunnels, meanwhile, thispaper also demonstrated objectively the energy-saving effect and economic benefits of thetunnel lighting energy saving after rectification. This demonstration indicates that this systemnot only get considerable economic benefits, but also have a good environmental and socialbenefits. The paper provides useful experience and lessons for the design of medium and shorttunnel lighting energy saving system.
