Smart substation plays an important role in supporting the strong smart grid onthe aspects of reliability, integration, digitization, informatization, automation, etc. Inaccordance with State Grid’s deployment, the newly build substation will beimplemented on the basis of technical requirements of smart substation. Until now,State Grid of Shanghai has carried out several intelligentized substation experimentalprojects, such as110kV Mengzi and220kV Luding substation. In the case ofexperimental project implementation, the existing smart substations apply theinformatization and networking technology based on general substation to realize theintegration of in station communication protocol. Considering the system structure ofsubstation, each system still independent and coupling loose, and do not realize theintegration of the smart substation system. In terms of the application of smartsubstation technology, the design approach, equipment selection and installationmethod, etc., all follow the traditional substation model.This article studied smart substation technology applied in projectimplementation. The author has a clear perceiving on the current application of smartsubstation and its secondary equipment. The research realizes functional integrationof multi-independent equipments, and improves the network frame of substation.Through presenting design method appropriated for smart substation, we can form asafe, reliable, technically advanced, and economical smart substation framework,equipment, configuration and project implementation scheme. Finally, from the angleof reducing substation’s construction investment, improving substation’s lifetime, andbeing convenient for substation’s operation, maintenance and management, we adopttechnically economical comparison to analyze the benefit it brings.The result of the research can be guidance on the design of the smart substationand project implementation at the present stage. It has a great significance. Meanwhile,it provides a solid foundation for accelerating the construction of UHV grid and urbanand rural distribution grid, for shaping a system of smart grid implementationcontrolling and interactive service, for key technology and equipment to entirely achieve the international advanced level, and for achieving the magnificent goal ofconstructing a strong smart gird.
