Multimedia is a media which is a combination of text, graphics, animation, vide o and audio information via a computer, and usually stored on CD-ROM. As the fast d evelopmentof computer techniquesand accelerated process of industrialization, the"people-oriented" baseddesign has been widely recognized, the user centered designprinciples a nd its related research works have attracted the most attention."User experience" is considered as a new thought in the design of a system, the research is conducted to investigate the psychological and physiological characteristics of a specific user, and focusing on the feasibility testing and user testing of products, and obtain the final desi gn through iterative developments. Under the fast development of nowadays society, preschool education attractsmore and more attentions, the children’s multimediabooks co mbined with the rapid development of advanced computer technology, The development of children’s multimedia reading is accompanied with the development of compute r technology. It does not only show the advantages over the traditional books, but al so is an important attempt in the utilization of multimedia. This paper first reviews t he concept and development of multimedia reading materials as well as its signific ance in improving the cognition of preschool children. Subsequently, the paper desc ribes the advantage of Augmented Reality technology. Also discussed is the Augme nted Reality project case studies and related experience in attempt to adopt the Au gmented Reality technology in education. Then in-depth case studies on "preschool literacy card "and" Butch music to dance with" are conducted. The prototype of multimedia books catering to children’s needs is obtained based on the analysis of children’s psychology and behaviors. Tests on this prototype of preliminary design are also performed. The iterative development of the project is eventually achieved by taking the analysis of children’s demand to multimedia books, determination of cognitive style, feasibility assessment of this project, and many other consideration s in to account.
