Almost all of cities in this word were prepared to satisfaction the growing materialrequirement of human who lived in the era of highly development materialism. But it canbe more that a city be looked like not just a machine.For a long time, especially in the last30years, a large member of cities in Chinafollow after one radical model, a model full of utilitarianism. Wuhan, the biggestmetropolis of China, should do even more effort to protect and inherit her unique preciouscity heritage in order to avoid the mistake and enhance the strength to competitive withothers.The thesis, based on the wharf culture of Wuhan, point out that Wuhan’s characterhas deeply influenced by wharf culture. The thesis also holds the argument that the declinewaterfront areas of Wuhan renewal should connect more wharf culture. There are threeparts constitute this thesis. Firstly, trace back to history to prove the wharf culture cultivateWuhan’s character, then discover and explore the elements of this culture to apply intowharf environment art design. Secondly, combine with successful cases from all over theworld, the thesis discuss the essential and conditions that a wharf should possess. Andproposition the principles and methods of wharf areas environment art design. Thirdly, inview of Wuhan JiJiazui wharf which is seriously impair the whole city’s landscape,combine with above theories, the thesis launches a simulated environment art renews andreforms design in the aim of display characteristic of this city, reflect wharf culture ofWuhan, and embody humanistic care. Hoping from this plan, more and more wharf areasin Wuhan waterfronts could glow vigor again and become new scenery of this city.
