Urban public transport is closely related to people’s lives, the ties contacting the socialproduction and people’s lives, but also one of the indispensable power in sustainable urbandevelopment. With the economic developing and technology advancing, urban publictransport highlights the crucial role of the urban transport system and gradually become thebackbone and pillar of the city traffic. Faced with worsening urban congestion problems, thequality of residents travel becomes worse. Giving priority to the development of publictransport has been considered to play a more effective role in easing congestion. Conventionalpublic transport is an important part of the urban public transport, bearing an importantresponsibility of the city daily travel. Due to the specificity and limitations of small andmedium linear cities, we cannot simply select the ring or radioactive conventional wire meshmode in the planning of the conventional bus network of small and medium linear cities. In this paper, more mature conventional bus network the main line, proceed from smalland medium linear cities’ urban forms. Using the interaction that from urban forms to urbantransport and the natural form restrictions of the development of urban transport in linearcities as a breakthrough, analysising the impact on residents travel features and road networkcharacteristics from the linear cities, try to find a suitable conventional bus network modeland layout method for the small and medium linear cities. Firstly, an overview of urban formsand the relationship between urban forms and urban transport, points out that morphologicalcharacteristics of linear cities. Secondly, studying traffic characteristics of small andmedium linear cities and contrasting single center circle cities’ traffic characteristics of thetrips with small and medium linear cities, analysis travel characteristics of urban residents insmall and medium linear, providing the support for follow-up public transport demandforecasts and the basis for the conventional bus network model and the layout method. Thenaccording to the characteristics of urban trips, engrains the function model to forecast publictransport demand, and researches urban public transportation network model and layoutmethod. This paper argues that urban form has an important influence on the structure of urbanland, urban traffic characteristics, urban road network structure and so on. These factors arean important factor in planning of urban public transportation network, having a decisiveimpact on the layout of the urban public transportation network. Travel forecasting of publictransport demand derived from the survey status quo by residents travel. This transit planningideas, though more mature, but not completely adapted for the small and medium-sized strip city. Due to the constraints of its natural conditions, linear cities formed the urban form oflonger main axis of development and more narrow wings. Mode and the line laid in the publictransportation network should take full account of the particularity to meet the city’s publictransport needs.
