So far, the national highway network and the feeder highway have been maturing;nevertheless, with the boom of economic, the traffic volume of highways has been increasingrapidly, which leads to a downward trend in the level of service in national highway networkyear after year, especially the one near the provincial capital city. Therefore, in recent years,the rebuilding and extension project of domestic highway has started, and most projectsconcentrate in eastern developed provinces of China. Compared with the eastern ones, theprovinces in middle and western China are still lacking in research experience on highwayrebuilding and extension. The rebuilding and extension of the highway is still a new subject,new task. Considering the complicity and particularity of the rebuilding and extension project,at the early stage of that, it is necessary to make in-depth research in the route, roadbase andpavement, bridges, culverts, interchanges and the road network along the highway and so onof the original highway; in addition, it is also important to draw on the experience and lessonsfrom the economically advanced regions during discussing the deign scheme of highwayrebuilding and extension.In this paper, to the rebuilding and extension project design for G30national highway of“7918”network----Tongguan-Lintong highway, first it analyses the route technicalspecification, the technology of splicing roadbase and pavement, accident investigation of theoriginal highway; moreover, the computer program AutoCAD software system has beenapplied to compare and determine the recommended design for the rebuilding and extensionproject from lots of schemes during the research of technical specification; in addition, it notonly introduces the research result of roadbase splicing “layering--sum” technological theoryand corrects the calculating result by applying architectural foundation subsidence calculationexperience coefficient, but also completes the designs for the pavement and for roadbase splicing and widening, referring to the roadbase splicing technical specification control ofShenyang-Dalian, Shanghai-Nanjing and other highways’ rebuilding and extension. Besides,to the rebuilding and extension project, the implementation plan of sub-project and outertraffic diverging plan have been studied. During six months’ regular operation of theeight-lane highway from Lintong to Tongguan, some problem appeared. Therefore, optimizedproposes have been put forward to promote traffic efficiency further.The research result shows that, due to going deep into the research of the original roadroute technical specification, the design for rebuilding and extension of Tongguan-Lintongfeeder highway is rational and practicable; the roadbase splicing plan is an economical andpractical one which is not only sustained by a certain theoretical foundation but also attainedby referring to the successful experiences of other provinces. The large region trafficdiverging program in the later stage of the project implementation may be a modal project indomestic rebuilding and extension projects or overhaul projects or medium maintenanceprojects.
