The Urban Design Research On Configuration Space Of Urban Memory

On October23rd,2003, delegates from the fields of architecture, urban planning, culture and art, and representatives from the real estate community who are interested in the culture of architecture gathers in the Chinese National Academy of Arts to discuss the issues concerned with Urban Memories, and so for the first time, the subject of Urban Memories is formally brought into the realm of academic research by the academic circles.Since then, many experts and scholars have made researches on this subject from different perspectives, but most of the current researches are restricted to the concept of Urban Memories, and the research on its practical significance in designing is rarely seen. Given this situation, this paper focuses on the practical significance of Urban Memories in spatial morphology designing by the case study of the Longshu Times Square in Shucheng County, Lu’an City, which entails the Chinese dragon culture. Shucheng is the cradle of Chinese dragon culture, and people there revere dragons very much, so dragons are parts of their urban memories. Based on the urban design philosophy of regional cultural heritage and characteristics shaping, Longshu Times Square displays the idea of dragons, an legendary animal imagined by our ancestors and memories of people in Shucheng, through the means of architecture.And it has summed up the method and principle to follow of urban memory shape space design on the basis of practice. It has still proposed a problem of city design based on historical culture inheritance, such as the protection of urban memory, inheritance and development, which is essentially a spatial reappearance of urban memory existing in the form of substance. The shape space design should carry out in two aspects include city design strategy and the whole shape space design. The former has mainly grasped the direction of urban memory culture inheritance and the latter’s core is spatial reappearance of that.This paper aims to touch the problem of the protection, heritage and development of non-physical urban memories, and its ultimate goal is to shape the characteristics of an urban image.
