Along with the fast development of the aviation transportation industry, domestic aircraft fleet expanded very quickly, landing gear as one of the aircraft main systems, its function affects the taxing, take-off, and landing safeties of the aircraft dramatically. In the last few years, the fault of landing gear has resulted in aviation accidents frequently, these accidents not only bring tremendous of economy loss to operators, but also resulting in very bad society influence.Based on analysis to the flight data of domestic aviation fleet, this article presents that landing gear fault is one of three major aircraft system faults. This article also states some incident cases happened resent years, intends to give warning to operators that the fault of landing gear has already threatened the safety of the airplanes and passengers seriously. The current safety condition urgently forces manufactories and operators, repair stations, authorities to improve the reliability of landing gear.Through complete analysis and comparison of landing gear development history, the common configuration, shock absorber theory, operation function of the modern civil aviation fleet has been established, and its future development trends has been predicted. Using the mechanics principle, this article also analyzes the landing gear stress condition and load distribution, in order to provide the theory basis and mechanic models for improvement of the landing gear reliability.Focusing on the landing gear fault analysis and reliability monitoring, this article puts forward MTBF (the Mean Time Between Failures) as the key index to measure landing gear reliability, and also, with the reliability monitoring data for domestic civil aviation fleet, analyzes the current MTBF status. Based on the analysis of the fault types and its probability distributions, and considering the configuration, shock absorber theory, service environment of modern civil aviation fleet, this article provides a few methods to improve the reliability of landing gear, also expects to give theory instructions and technique guidance for development&design, production&manufacture, service&maintenance of the landing gear.
