Connecting rod, as an important part of automobile engine, connects with the crankshaftand the pistons, and transmit the force that pistons bear to crankshaft, to realize the poweroutput. Because of its production process is operation flow, the output is very big, so strictlycontrol its quality in the production process will be very important. Usually, in the machiningprocess, connecting rod defects including local lack of meat, crack, shaft bending and internalinclusion accumulation and so on, therefore, aiming at the above situation, it is necessary toseparately visual inspection, crack detection, bending test and inspection testing.Combining with the production practice, which aims to design an equipment used in thedetection of engine connecting rod shoulder crack and shaft bending. Also, the equipment isused in the connecting rod production line, to realize the online quality detection ofautomobile engine connecting rod manufacturing. In view of this, this paper analyzes theresearch background and significance firstly, and made a brief description about the domesticand international research situation about the equipment; Then it expatiates the softwareCATIA and its related modules such as assembly design, electronic prototype, knowledgeengineering and so on which is used in the development process that the equipment needed;Then, according to the demand, the connecting rod detection line input conditions, testingcontent, output condition are analyzed. On this base, it puts forward some design and usesCATIA preliminary for three dimensional modeling and virtual assembly, and selects therelated equipment and parts, Then, using CATIA for further design of3D modeling, virtualassembly and simulation, and also testing the rationality of the design, to change the existinginterference or error; Finally, generating engineering drawing, processing and assembling theequipment, and debugging the device, to realize the normal operation of the equipment.This design process breaks the traditional two-dimensional design or first2D and then3D design concept. Based on the analysis of demand, the concept of3D design first and2Drefining is adopted, so we can go up from the vision, more intuitive to show the productstructure and function and its rationality.This research can also provide good reference as an example in the design methods andideas for the related enterprise for non-standard equipment research and development.
