Many researches on path planning for virtual assembly based on the CATIA/CAAplatform were presented in this dissertation. The current researches on virtual assembly and path planning technology wereprovided in this dissertation, and the acquirable functions of virtual assembly and pathplanning in the CATIA and CAA were provided too. With the aid of Visual C ++ platformsand C ++ language, many helpful researches on the CATIA secondary development basedon CAA were presented, and a series of key problems for the virtual assembly and pathplanning based on CATIA/CAA platform were solved, such as the interactive modelingmethod, acquirement and statistics of product or part relevant information in the producttree, the acquirement of relevant and internal information in product or part, theobtainment of bound box for part, read-write of the path data, assembly path planningbased on the theory that can be disassembled and can be assembled, dynamic assemblysimulation according to the planned path, and so on. Combining with actual assembly ofproduction process, the relation between assembly and disassembly were presented indetail, in this dissertation, and main difficulties of path planning in virtual assemblyprocess were analysed and summarized too. Through this research, not only a series of key problems for the virtual assembly andpath planning based on CATIA/CAA platform were succeeded to solve, but also simplepath planning and dynamic assembly simulation was implemented, the feasibility of virtualassembly based on CATIA/CAA platform has been proved too.
