The handling stability of vehicle is an important subject in the automobile field,not only has an effect upon the vehicle’s convenience, but also is a crucial factor ondriver’s active safety.In this paper, base on a light bus which designed by a Chinesecar manufacturer, the vehicle model was completed in ADAMS/Car. According to thecorresponding national standards, the paper analyses the handling stability of the lightbus and get the evaluation of it. Aiming at the problem of large vehicle roll angle ofthe light bus in the steady static circular test, the theoretical analysis and optimizationdesign are completed in this paper.Based on the research about the handling stability of vehicle at home and abroad,combined with multi-body dynamics theory, the models of light bus’s frontsuspension, front stabilizer bar, steering, tires, brake system, power train and bodywere established in ADAMS/Car. At the same time, the rear drive shaft model wasestablished in ADAMS/Car, combined with the model of t leafspring which wasestablished by using discrete BEAM, the rear suspension model was completed. Andthe assembly of the rear suspension model was validated by suspension motionsimulation. At last, the assembly of the light bus was completed in ADAMS/Car.According to the corresponding national standard’s test requirements, theevaluation of the light bus’s handling stability are completed in ADAMS/Car whichincluding steady static circular test, steering return ability test, steering portability test,the steering transient response test of steering wheel step input test, the steeringtransient response test of steering wheel angle pulse input test and pylon courseslalom test. The simulation results are evaluated according to the correspondingnational standard at last.In allusion to the roll angle of carriage is oversize in the simulation of vehiclesteady static circular, this study make a theoretical analysis. Find out the factors whichaffect the oversize of the roll angle, select front stabilizer bar and front helical springas the design variables. This paper optimizes the roll angle of carriage on this basis.On the premise of not affect the vehicle understeer characteristics, append rearstabilizer bar in the light bus. The optimal simulation test was established byorthogonal design. And this method has achieved good results. In this paper, through appraising the handling stability of a light car and solvingthe problem of the vehicle roll angle’s oversize. This study provides a method todevelop this vehicle and has certain guiding meaning.
