In recent years, the development of Chinese railway transportation is rapid, and the safety issue of train driving is gradually aroused the great concern in society. The core function of the on-board automatic train protection system (ATP) is to provide protection for the train to the most degree. The majority of the on-board ATP system used in the train is foreign products in our country at present. The product of some Chinese company is still in the test stage. There are no on-board ATP systems applied to the CTCS1train control systems which meet the safety integrity level SIL4requirements and are certified by the safety relevant agencies in our country. In this paper, the on-board ATP system of CTCS1(C1ATP) is researched and designed from the aspects of the hardware architecture and the software algorithm. And the on-board ATP system of CTCS1which is achieved SIL4level assessed by Lloyd’s Register certification agency is developed successfully. The main work of this paper as follows:1. On the basis of the structural analysis for CTCS1train control system, the modular design program for the C1ATP system is proposed. The safety requirements of the C1ATP system are analyzed.2. Design the hardware structure of C1ATP system. The quadruple modular parallel voting structure is proposed in the paper. The Markov model of the structure is built. The comparison result of the simulation shows that the reliability and safety of the structure are both high. And the structure is actually applied to the hardware development of C1ATP system. The functions of the hardware unit are proposed. The reliability of the system units is distributed and can be improved by2oo2structure.3. Design the software of C1ATP system. The key functions such as braking curve, speed control and voting module are developed. The mathematical model of the braking process is analyzed and the specific algorithm processes are designed.4. Test the C1ATP system. The redundancy safety, real-time and important functions of C1ATP system are tested, which indicates that the C1ATP system can be able to ensure the safety of the train effectively.
