Under the background of global energy crisis and the deterioration of environment, China, as a rapid developing country, is always restricted to the high energy consumption. The hot-summer-cold-winter area, as the developed area with large population of China, has a great energy consumption in heating of winter and cooling of summer.Meanwhile, with the growing of the individual’s requirement of life quality, people has a higher expectation of building environment. They has already recognized the important of low-carbon, energy saving and natural environment instead of just getting satisfied with a small range static in-house environment with the mechanical adjustment only. Therefore, it is very significant in both the theoretical and practical perspective to adapt to changing climate initiatively by implement the variability of the border of building.In order to develop natural environment more efficiently and achieve the sustainable development goal of "avoid disadvantage" of the architecture, this article raise a conception of retractability of architecture edge and make a research of retractability of architecture edge within the scope of cold-winter-warm-summer area base on the climate environment of our country. The introduction of the article focuses on brief and summarizes the study of related fields in home and abroad. The second chapter is the detail explanation of the retractable edge related architecture design theory, gives out a conclusion of the design specifications of architecture edge under the influence of climate, brief the design trend and directions of retractable edge in modern architecture and analysis the shortage of architecture edge design in cold-winter-hot-summer area as well as the difficult situation we are facing to.Base on the above, the main research of this article starts from the Third chapter, the retractability of the space of architecture. It organize and analysis the application and design strategies from the outer boundary of the building, entrance space, roof space. Chapter four analyzes the way of implementation retractable edge. Mainly focus on the constructions and materials. the above2chapters are trying to outlined the common elements of through analyzing, summarizing, organizing and learning from large number of outstanding architecture examples regarding restorable edge in the real world.In chapter five, we discuss the practical value of retractable edge from the view point of the variability of actions in the architecture space. By analyzing example of retractable edge in the accent housing building and in modern life, finding out the retractable element and good practice from the excellent examples in accent and present. From the view point of architecture, conclude the deep influence to individual action model of retractable edge in modern architecture.Finally, in chapter six, use the design strategy we concluded from above which could work with design the retractable edge of cold-winter-warm-summer area, and analyze the situation of retractable edge in China, and finally make a prediction to future of applying retractable edge of architecture. And find an available solution which can improve the initiative adaptability and provide the design that satisfy the requirement from both sustainable-development and architecture aesthetics for the cold-winter-warm-summer area of China, which also make a comfortable, healthy and natural building environment.
