Under both the pressure from shortage of land resources and attraction of Marine resources, reclamation has become an important means of expanding urban space from the ocean for existence and developing. It contribute to the economic development of coastal cities by reclaiming and bring about the transfer and adjustment of industry. However, it is obviously that reclamation activities are harmful to environment. Therefore, it is important to explore a new way to coexist with the ocean and reclamation, which will solve the contradiction between economic development needs and the environmental damage. The cause and the ultimate goal of this paper is to make a Scientific and reasonable reclamation, shaping a good environment of reclamation area and promoting the social and economic development of cities. This paper focus on the reclamation which built as urban form and discusses about the ecological method of spatial planning in the levels of land development planning and spatial design of reclamation area. First, in this paper, I will analysis planning theories on reclamation and waterfront domestic and international to build a framework of ecological method which is suitable for spatial planning of reclamation. Second, I will collect and compare typical projects on reclamation and waterfront domestic and international, summing up the successful or unsuccessful experiences of planning, discussing ecological method and principle about spatial planning of reclamation. This paper mainly discusses and studies on the level of land development planning for four contents including the location of reclamation land, the form of reclamation land, the application of reclamation land and the traffic between the city and reclamation. And on the level of spatial design, this paper mainly studies about five elements including the traffic network of reclamation land, divided area of function, node, boundary and architectural design.
