It’s not easy to use calipers and other measuring tools to measure the space length in narrow special occasions. In order to solve this measurement problem, this design uses embedded image technology designs an image measurement system. This paper introduces the embedded image measurement system platform, USB camera programming, image preprocessing and measurement algorithm, image processing programming and the design of a man-machine interface.The design of the hardware components are USB camera and Mini6410development board which regards Samsung S3C6410as its main processor. On the base of VMware, install the Ubuntu10.04as the Linux develop environment, finish the establishment of the software development platform. Then use C++to write the USB service program, use the V4L2standard to set camera and image acquisition.The image processing part includes image pre-processing and image acquisition. Image pre-processing includes the gray of the image and single connected domain edge detection to remove the redundant information. Then using hough algorithm to detect image line. Traverse all the points on the image. Based on the proportional relationship between pixel numbers, obtain the size of the specific parts. Then, in order to make the data more accurate, use a pane grid method to correct the data.In the phase of cross-compile the program, using gcc compiler to compile, to debug, and to generate the target executable files which can be used by the target board. We can see from the data that after joining the correction part, we can receive the accuracy about above98%.The image measurement system in this paper uses the ARM11processor, its small size makes it easy to carry and operate. Its friendly man-machine interface can better display the measurement results. This design is simple, fast, easy to use, after numerous tests, can meet the design purpose.
