As the increase of impact and imbalanced loads, there are many serious problems of power quality in the power system, such as voltage fluctuation and flicker, three-phase voltage imbalance serious power quality problems. Therefor dynamic var compensation of load end is quite important to improve the level of power system stability and reduce the power loss. Monitoring system is an important part of the Static Var Compensator (SVC) device design and operation process, and its role is the operation information management center. The paper designs and realizes a SVC monitoring system.The subject of SVC device is developed with Anshan Huaxia Power Electronics Corporation. SVC fully digital control system is the main part of the SVC device. It includes the SVC controller and monitoring system. SVC controller adopts master-slave dual-processor system to achieve SVC digital control, and it includes a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) and a MCU (Micro Controller Unit). DSP mainly completes the digital process of var compensation algorithm as the slave, while MCU completes communications and control functions as the master. MCU achieves data communication monitoring system with IPC (Indusrtial Personal Computer).In order to solve the problem of serious voltage fluctuations and three-phase imbalance caused by impact loads such as arc furnace, the paper researches the balancing compensation strategy, brings the thought of Vector Control to dynamic reactive power compensation, establishes the model of TCR type SVC balancing compensation strategy, achieves the separation of fundamental positive sequence components from negative sequence components, and the decoupling of active power component with reactive power component of the fundamental wave; calculates the value of compensation susceptance. Besides the paper simulates the model of TCR type SVC balancing compensation strategy, the results show that high accuracy and dynamic performance, the compensation effect from the impact of load harmonic currents.To achieve real-time SVC central monitoring device, the monitoring system is designed and implemented based on the VB.NET development environment. In the communication system, the serial communication is applied to connect the IPC and the MCU with RS232, and communication protocols are designed to complete the communication. The paper develops the SVC monitoring system to complete the real-time state monitoring, designs and achieves the communication between IPC and MCU, and analysis and display relative data and chart. The SVC monitoring system has put into operation, the effect is good.
