The Steering System is an important part of Automobiles. Especially for steeing wheel, it is a part of automobiles which is directly exposed to the drivers, and it affects the car’s ride comfort, handling stability, speed and other important factors, it also affects automotive NVH performance.Engine idle vibration and road conditions are the main reasons which are leading to the steering system vibration. So they make serious impact on vehicle comfort and ride quality and easily lead to driver’s driving fatigue. Therefore it might greatly affect traffic safety. This study analyzed them one by one based on many factors of affecting steering wheel vibration. According to the finite element dynamic theory, using the Hypermesh software, we can establish the finite element model of steering wheel sysytem, and calculate its dynamic stiffness and static stiffness using the ABAQUS software in this study. This study explains the finite element method of establishing the steering wheel system, calculates its modal frequencies and modal vibration modes of the system, as well as the static bending and torsion stiffness of the steeeing wheel system. The results show that the steering wheel system resonance is mainly due to the reason that the first order resonant frequency of the steering wheel system is near the vibration frequency of engine idle running. The automobile steering system structure needs to be modified and meets the NVH performance requirement. The above study can provide a valuable reference for development of steering system and other parts of automobiles. By this study, Design cost and development period will be cut down. It will have a remarkable potential application in the automobile stuctrue development.
