Machinery manufacturing industry is a typical discrete manufacturing industry, in which the production organization is complex, the manufacturing process is long, and there are much specifications about the product and material. So there exist more management difficulties. Machinery manufacturing industry has many complex applications of information technology and is the birthplace of many modules for enterprise business process management, which are used by different business departments with different databases. Different departments may use different management systems, which form a large distributed system. Because of its heterogeneity and complexity, large system is often slow to respond and not flexible enough. It is urged to improve the agility of business process management.Because SOA has the capabilities of flexible business restructuring and rapid response, this paper combines SOA and BPM to establish a common IT architecture so as to realize the business process reengineering and the optimization of enterprise applications and to achieve the agility of business process management. After introducing the business processes and IT architecture of enterprise production system, this paper analyzes the theoretical foundation of service-oriented architecture (SOA) and the implementation method of service. Selecting the transmission enterprise as research object, this paper analyzes the existing business process management and the optimization targets, defines the service architecture of transmission production. The application functions are packaged as services, which are used to form the needed application system by the transmission enterprise quickly. To integrate the requirements and the applications of production systems, the company simply chooses its own production methods, customizes the production services that meet the functional requirements of the production system. This research gives a solution fot the enterprise to improve the automation and agility of business process management.The operation of transmission manufacturing is made up of a series of processes including order, design, manufacturing, assembly, and so on. In fact, each process is a large granularity of the process, which is also service with own processes. To structure the process it is needed to build SOA environment and create webservices. BPM is flexible in arrangements of these service such as seting up the processes and services. The main idea of this paper is to use IT to optimize the business process through the analysis of existing machinery manufacturing enterprises in their IT situation and business process characteristics, and specific business process together with the information systems of transmission enterprises. This paper sums up the general framework and methodology for SOA applications to specific business-related entities, combines with the business processes of transmission manufacturing especially focusing on two business lines, design and production. By changing the information system architecture of transmission enterprise, the business process optimization of transmission manufacturing is achieved.
