It is undoubted that the living environment is very important for thephysical and mental healt h o f the elderly. Elderly not only made to societ y’stheir contribut ion, but also cult ivated a new generat ion o f young people. Sothey should have a physical and psycho logical affordable living environment.However, what is the relationship between the environment and theelderly in urban settlements? Did the urban designers and planners pa yattent ion to the living environment for the elderly in the sett lements in thepast? Do the design and planning of the urban sett lements consider the livingenvironment for elderly?Based on the research, several issues were addressed hoping to throughthe analys is o f the psycho logical and physio logical characterist ics o f theelderly and study the relat ionship between the environment and the elderly.First, what’s the significance and value o f studying the living environment forolder people? What is the relat ionship between the environment and theelderly in urban sett lements? What’s the current situat ion and shortages of theexist ing urban sett lements related to the needs of o lder persons? What shouldthe living environment look like In the eyes o f the elderly? What aspectsshould be focused on when designing the living environment for elderly inurban settlements? These issues were analyzed in the fo llowing sect ions.The first chapter describes the origin of the subject, the object o f studyand the current situat ion, research quest ions and significance.In the second chapter, analysis the obje ct o f study and understand thephysio logical characterist ics and mental characterist ics o f the elderly, to findthe behavior and act ivit ies o f the elderly fro m two aspects o f the body andmind in the elderly.In the third chapter, conducted a quest ionnaire survey on the elderly inthree area o f the urban settlement in Changsha, to understanding the elderlyand their behavioral characterist ics, ascertain the att itude o f the elderly on thecurrent living condit ions and mining the expectat ions o f o lder people in theirliving environment.In the fourth chapter, according to available informat ion and three cases, observe and examine the living environment in urban settlements, find thecurrent situat ion and shortages in the elderly living environment to enhancethe relevance o f social invest igat ion next.Last, according to the co mbinat ion o f the forego ing analysis and fieldresearch and case studies, in the perspect ive of the elderly, find the affordableliving environment for elderly mental and physical design strategy fro m themacroecono mic policy, sett lement system and living environment design.looking forward to the thesis not only have a certain academic value forarchitects, planners and managers, but also, while at the same time, bring bod yand mind affordable living environment for the elderly and contribute toChinese aging societ y.
