Earthquake is a serious natural disaster, which threaten the production and life ofhuman society. China is one of the counties which are suffered by the earthquakedisaster seriously in the world.There are about80%of the land area located in theseismic zone in our country, the lose caused by the earthquake is very huge everyyear,obviously most serious damage of the constructions caused by the earthquake ishappened in the rural areas. In recent years, a series of earthquake happened in ourcountry,which let us once again to deeply understand the status quo that most of theChina’s rural areas building lack common seismic capacity. In China’s rural areas,limited by the economic situation and construction condition, the rural building canneither use the traditional "hard fight" method, nor use the expensive isolation ordamping method.In view of the universal present situation where general rural buildings has lowearthquake resistance ability, this paper, based on the base Isolation theory and thesteel-asphalt isolation layer, proposes the steel-asphalt isolation pier to overcome theshortcomings of relatively complex construction and inconvenient volume production.Isolation pier has many advantages such as simple construction, low in cost, durable,environmental protection, and avoid the wet construction, these advantages makeisolation pier very suitable for spreading use in rural areas. The present study has alsocarried full-scale model experiment on the houses of single-layer and two layerfull-scale masonry structure. Through vibration pickup which is layout of the upperand lower floor to measured the upper and lower acceleration amplitude. The isolatingaffection is measured by upper and lower acceleration amplitude. The result showsthat with the vibration wave input of various acceleration amplitudes, thesuperstructure acceleration can weakens to below40%and gets good damping effectbecause a majority of energy has been absorbed by the isolation pier. The isolatingeffect is very obvious in horizontal direction, and the attenuation coefficient ofvibrating acceleration is decreased by the increase of the vibration frequency. Therelative displacement of the side pier and the upper structure is in acceptable range.With the isolation effect of one and two layer model, we can conclude thatunder safe conditions, the less of vertical steel of isolation piers the better of theisolation effect. This paper then, based on the analysis of the test data, puts forward somesuggestions about the details of seismic design of the masonry structure which usedisolation pier. Earthquake fortification of rural buildings in the region of6-7intensity,seismic design can not be required. In the region of8-9intensity, the designedintensity can decrease a level. And puts forward the replacement of ring beamconstructional column for High Performance Ferrocement Laminate (HPFL) strip, soas to strengthen masonry structure and reduce the housing cost.
