The wheelhouse is the control center of the ship, and the ergonomic design ofwheelhouse layout is important for ship safety navigation, ship staff work efficiency andphysical health, even the overall performance of ships. Many domestic ships, at present, lackof scientific and objective ergonomic design on wheelhouse layout. Some studies was done inthis paper mainly on the method about wheelhouse layout for the purpose of improving thedesign quality of wheelhouse ergonomic design.Firstly, base on the analysis to the foreign ergonomic design standard on shipwheelhouse design, this paper extracted the principles only to ergonomic design of shipwheelhouse layout with referring the domestic ergonomic design principles.Secondly, this paper expounded the basic principle of the analytic operation chainprocess, and had a research on how to use the process to solve the problem of workstationlayout in wheelhouse. Once more, the paper analyzed the problem of the human machineinterface (HMI) layout on workstation panel, and established the mathematical model base onHMI layout priority sequence, then used the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) to solve theproblem, and put the optimal result into layout the HMI of the workstation base on theimportance of workstation panel’s operation area.Thirdly, the research developed software to aid ergonomic design of wheelhouse layoutwith the UG redevelop technique. The software mainly includes two modules: analyticoperation chain process and ACO base on layout priority sequence. According toGB10000-88, multifunctional human model was developed with UG redevelop technique tothe ergonomic assessment, and realized the purpose of interaction between design andassessment. With the process, the fault can be found and modified timely.Finally, a three-dimensional wheelhouse was constructed in UG NX, and according tothe theory proposed above, the software developed in research was used to carry out theergonomic design of the wheelhouse workstation layout and the layout of workstation panel,and then the improvement advices were proposed according to the result.
