The global car ownership is keep rising, which make energy consumption andenvironment pollution problem has increasingly prominent. The sustainable development ofthe car is facing increasingly severe situation. Electric cars are the effective ways to solve theabove problems, has been got more and more extensive research and development.Power system is the key part of the electric vehicle research, therefore, the active wheelis proposed: active wheel is a kind of integrated wheel which has the engine, transmission andbraking system.The active wheel design study mainly include the following content:Firstly, by analyzing the performance of electric vehicles, a planetary gear system hasbeen introduced as the main components of power system. Meanwhile, a suitable transmissionscheme has been selected; the body dynamics model is established. And through specific datacalculated input and output’s force and speed;Secondly, active wheel is modeled, pre-processsed, analysised by using ADAMSsoftware. By changing the sun gear and planetary gear teeth, a better planetary gear system foractive wheel is obtained; ensure that two degrees of freedom of the planetary system issuperior to single degree of freedom system by researching the work status of the sun gear orthe planet shelf independently; the output torque of the motor is researched by applying loadon whole active wheel system model.Thirdly, a planet shelf’s static and modal analysis is done by using ANSYS finiteelement analysis software, the best materials of manufacturing planet shelf is selected;meanwhile the planet shelf’s structure is verified that it met the requirement of strength andoperational performance. The variation trend of planet shelf natural frequency with increasingrotation velocity is researched by changing the planet shelf angular velocity. Naturalfrequencies and corresponding mode shapes of the sun gear, the planet gear, and the internalgear is analyized. The vibration of the motor won’t cause to other parts resonance is ensured.At last, a topology optimization design of planet shelf is done.The allowable strengthrequirement is met as the same time the mass of planet shelf reached lightest. The planet shelfis redesigned and re-analyized in order to reach the allowable strength requirement.
