Diesel engine, as one of the most commonly used large mechanical equipment powersupply, plays an important role in the social development. It is widely used in the fields of oildrilling, power generation, large type excavator, railway traction, Space Shuttle and variouskinds of vessels. However, the complexity of diesel structure, harsh working conditions andother link factors makes the diesel unpredictable faults. It is not only result in great economiclosses but also put workers in danger. Under this background, the diesel of condition monitorand fault diagnosis becomes a popular and important research topic.With the continuous development of computer and microelectronics technology, theparallel processing capabilities of the operating system and the fast and powerful dataprocessing ability are greatly improved. Embedded systems have been universal to theindustrial control, house appliances, robotics, portable instrument and aerospace, etc.Embedded has also been popularized in the application of fault diagnosis.The paper introduces a kind of diesel engine fault diagnosis system which is based onembedded. Firstly, a whole design project, that an embedded fault diagnosis system isintroduced in detail, which includes the embedded hardware platform and the peripheralcircuit design of each module. The system of hardware platform adopted S3C2440, which isproduced by Samsung,as the core processing chip, and extended the corresponding hardwarecircuit which is based on the minimum system, including power circuit, Ethernetcommunication module, SD storage module, serial communication module, data collectmodule, etc. Secondly, the embedded system’s development method, debugging environmentand software environment are described. Using the Linux as operating system on the board,achieving configuration, compile and transplantation of the kernel and root file system, andthen completing device driver and application program on the system. Making the whole system run normally and realizing vibration signal of diesel acquisition, storage, processingand the corresponding diagnosis function. Finally, the purpose of the on-line conditionmonitoring and fault diagnosis will come true.
