Eighties of last century, we began to use the large-pore asphalt mixture in the Highway Engineering in China. The large-pore asphalt mixture is different from the ordinary asphalt mixture. With the help of the link hole in the mixture, it made the road have many excellent properties such as drainage, noise reduction, anti-slip and etc. However, this kind of mixtures has its own shortcoming. For example, the large porosity cause that many water stay in the road and water damage is likely to occurr. Many studise on balancing the excellent performance and durability of the large-pore asphalt mixture has been done. One of the effective measures is to develop the new high viscosity asphalt. In this article, this kind of job will be done.In the first part of this article, SBS/MWCNTs composite modified asphalt will been made. Each index for propertie of the new modified asphalt will be tested such as60℃dynamic vis-cosity, softening point, penetration and ductility. Consider of the economic factors and asphalt performance factors, the composite modified asphalt with6%SBS and0.5%MWCNTs will be used in the large-pore asphalt mixture. In the second part of the this article, referencing the ex-isting desigh method, with the tests such as the Marshall test, leakage test and ect., a reasonable graded ratio program will be made for the new high viscosity asphalt. In the third part, the new mixture road performance like water stability, high temperature stability, low temperature crack resistance will be tested. Through these researches, it is hoped that the new modified asphalt can be applied to the practice.
