With the conclusions and analysis of main types recently of low-floor LRVs bogies’technologies, this paper firstly discussed the current status of urban low-floor LRVs and proposed a detailed structure design of portal radial bogie based on the research of ULF ultra-low-floor LRV. Under the assistance of finite element software, it finished the outer-wheel shell’s strength validation and structure’s optimization, as well as the modal analysis indicates the structure can avoid resonance destruction and the reasonable structure’s stiffness can guarantee its parts movements. In aspect of steering mechanism, it gives the steering mechanism’s geometrical parameters based on mechanism theory, and the further kinematic analysis confirms the mechanism action’s sensitive and stability, which can absolutely meet the quick steering needs of wheels in curves. At last, the paper also studies the influences of steering parameters (including steering gain, stiffness and gap) to vehicles’dynamic performance of curve passing, and followed by curving passing simulation and analysis on its dynamic performance with the full-vehicle model built which indicates the performance improvements of the steering mechanism when car across curves. Some important conclusions can be concluded as follow based on this paper research:1. The wheels part has a complex structure design which can meet the needs of wheel’s rotating and radical adjustment. It is a structure innovation, totally different from traditional bogies’wheels, has an extensive application potential.2. The steering mechanism’s action is sensitive and steady, which can perform quick steering function in transition curves, and has a good applicability in urban rail transit environment.3. The portal bogie merged the technologies of single-axle bogie, independently rotating wheels bogie and radical bogie, which make itself has advantages of small radius curve passing. With the assist of steering mechanism, it efficiently reduced the wheel/rail impact angle and vehicle wear, especially has a better curve passing performance at the condition of curve radius over100m.This paper is more like a strategy design and simulation analysis dissertation, it carries out many innovations on bogie’s design and validates the steering mechanism reasonable which furthermore has good performance on kinematic and dynamic impacts. With the development of urban rail vehicles and the maturity of related technologies, low-floor LRVs’technologies have no doubt of bright future, and the bogies technologies this paper mentioned can also enrich related technologies contents of our country.
