This article first introduces the articulated train, single axle bogie and independent rotating wheel’s structure principle, characteristics, applications and research situation. the portal frame bogie articulated train which based on the ULF’s bogie structure, and guide institutions, vehicle suspension and marshalling mode are analyzed, and then the paper points out the problems existing in the independent rotating wheels on the guiding principle, analyzes portal frame bogie’s multi degree independent rotating wheel’s guiding principle under steering mechanism. On the basis of the vehicle’s structure principle, dynamic model of the whole train is established. The bogie suspension parameters are optimized under the simulating condition of straight line and curve passing. With the optimized parameters, the dynamic performance of different speed on straight line and different radius curve passing is simulated, the results proved the portal frame bogie’s articulated train has good dynamic performance under the line condition of simulation test. Three kinds of train’s dynamic performance is compared, one of them is ULF, the other two have the only difference of using typical independent rotating wheel or traditional wheel. The simulating results proved that the portal frame bogie train at a given speed and curve radius has a better dynamic performance and can meet the needs of urban rail transit.In this paper, the main research conclusions are as follows:1. Portal frame bogie articulated train has a unique structure, combined independent rotating wheels, single axle bogie, articulated train and radial guiding mechanism, and also with multi degrees of freedom wheel, inverted secondary suspension structure, these are the key reasons how the train can achieve the ability of small radius curve passing and extremely low floor height;2. The multi degrees of freedom wheel used in portal frame bogie regain steering ability because of steering mechanism, so the wheel has better curve passing ability and less wear than traditional wheelsets;3. With optimized suspension parameters, the portal frame bogie articulated train has a good dynamic performance in straight line and small radius curve proved that it can adapt to run on the difficult urban rail transit lines. In this paper, by establishing the dynamic model of portal frame bogie articulated train, the dynamic characteristics of urban rail vehicles with low floor, independently rotating wheels and radial bogie technology combination were simulated and analyzed, the simulation results points out the train has dynamic performance advantage in the field of urban traffic.
