Vehicle safety is one of the important properties of modern cars. With thedevelopment of computer simulation technology and emerging of virtual simulationtechnology, traditional method of vehicle safety research has been constantly updatedand improved.Studying realized on computer has become reality. It provides a morerational, efficient and accurate way for automotive product design. This paper according to a vehicle model, based on the finite element theory andvirtual experiment field technology, used the VPG and LS-DYNA software, through thevehicle side collision analysis, studied the door structure strength and energy absorptioncharacteristics, at the same time, evaluated the car’s side collision passive safetyperformanceThis research according to the ECE R95side collision regulation, in theVPG/Safety module loading moving barrier vehicle model and dummy model. Usingfinite element analysis software to divides the vehicle CAD model thorugh the form ofgrid unit. Defines the unit type and material parameters, create the solder joints, contactand constraint, Using nonlinear dynamic analysis software LS-DYNA to calculate, getthe door’s stress distribution, deformation size, energy curve, acceleration, and thedummy’s deformation, acceleration, damage index calculation results. through thedoor’s structure performance and anticollision beam energy absorption characteristic’sanalysis,we can see, this door structure deformation is too large, anticollision beamexists the phenomenon of stress concentration, its material and structure need to befurther improved. This study also calculation the dummy’s HPC index, VC index, andpeak acceleration in the head, and use these parameters to evaluation the vehicle’spassive safety performance in side collision.According to comprehensive analysis thecalculation results, put forward some suggestions to improve the structure of the body atthe same time, point out the lack and the problems need to be solved in this research.
