The inner quality of flue-cured tobacco included chemical composition and sensory quality and itwas mainly forming in the field, and meteorological and soil factors largely determined the inner quality. We produced high quality tobacco, only when the tobacco formed a good quality base in field, andaccompanied by appropriate measures of baking. In this study, we tried to search the formationmechanism of the tobacco inner quality and ecological factors affecting the inner quality, and providemore specific, more accurate theoretical guidance for flue-cured tobacco production. The results were asfollows:1. The inner quality analysis of flue-cured tobacco middle leaves in northern FujianThe characteristics of northern Fujian tobacco were as follows: reducing sugar, total sugar contentwere slightly high; nicotine, total nitrogen content were slightly low; potassium content were mediumand chlorine content was low unstable; the ratios of carbohydrate to alkali, proportion of nitrogen tonicotine and the ratio of potassium to chlorine were high. Increasing tobacco reducing sugars, totalsugar content, reducing the total nitrogen content, we could improve aroma quality and the total score;and reduce aftertaste, offensive odor, and irritation. The key indicators of the inner quality of flue-curedtobacco were nicotine, total sugar, reducing sugar, the ratios of carbohydrate to alkali, proportion ofnitrogen to nicotine.2. It was very suitable for planting flue-cured tobacco in northern Fujian. The ecological factors appropriate contribution rate expressed as precipitation of maturity(9.3%)>the average temperature of fast growing period(9.2%)> the average temperature of maturitystage(9.1%)> the temperature. of seedling(9.0%)> soil available nitrogen(8.8%)> the rainfall of fastgrowing period(7.7%)> the rainfall of seedling(6.9)> the sunshine of field period (6.9%)> water-solublechlorine(6.1%)> soil Olsen-P(5.9%)> available potassium(5.8%)> pH(4.2%)> effective sulfur(4.1%)>available boron(3.7%)> exchangeable magnesium(3.3%).Precipitation of seedling and maturity, available potassium, and available boron were limitingfactors. We could divide ten tobacco counties of northern Fujian into three grades: the first kind includesjianou, yanping and shunchang, and the second includes zhenghe, pucheng, songxi and jianyang, whilein the third kind, it includes guangze, wuyishan and shaowu.3. Chemical components of flue-cured tobacco middle leaves changed obviouslyWith the extension of the growth period, the reducing sugar, total sugar, starch, nicotine contentand the ratio of potassium to chlorine were gradually increasing trend; total nitrogen, the ratios ofcarbohydrate to alkali and proportion of nitrogen to nicotine were decreased; potassium, chloride, magnesium were first increased and then decreased; the difference between total sugar was firstdecreased and then increased in the middle leaf.4. The key ecological factors affected the inner quality of flue-cured tobacco middle leaves duringdifferent growth stages In seedling stage, growth of tobacco leaf quality was possible mainly concentrated in the carbonmetabolism, secondly was the balance of carbon and nitrogen metabolism, thirdly was nitrogenmetabolism, and finally for the metabolism of the tobacco photosynthesis and physiological metabolism. The key ecological factors were the average maximum temperature, mean minimum temperature, sunshine hours, soil pH, organic matter, water-soluble chlorine. In vigorous growing period, growth of tobacco leaf quality was possible mainly concentrated in thebalance of carbon and nitrogen metabolism, while nitrogen metabolism was in a dominant position, followed by the accumulation of carbohydrates, thirdly was nitrogen metabolism, and finally chlorinemetabolism. The key ecological factors were the average temperature, average maximum temperature, soil organic matter and available phosphorus.During maturity, growth of tobacco leaf quality was possible mainly concentrated in the carbonmetabolism, followed by light and physiological metabolism of tobacco plants, thirdly was nitrogenmetabolism, and finally was chlorine metabolism. The key ecological factors were Precipitations, meanminimum temperature, and soil exchangeable Mg, organic matter, water-soluble chlorine, and soil pH.
