Lycium ruthenicum Murr., a wild plant resource in northwest China, belongs to the family Solanaceae, and mainly covers the Qinghai and Xingjiang Provinces of the People’s Republic of China. In "Wei Wu Er Zhi", its fruits and roots were used for the treatment of urolithiasis, skin disease and gum bleeding. In another Tibetan medical classic "Jing Zhu Ben Cao", the ripe fruits had been used for treatment of heart disease, heart fever and menopause. Polysaccharide may be the main active ingredient of Lycium ruthenicum Murr..In this study, the crude polysaccharides were extracted from Lycium ruthenicum Murr., and the isolation, purification, physic-cochemical properties, structural characterization of water-soluble polysaccharides were investigated, the results were summarized as follows:1. Extraction, isolation, purification and physic-cochemical properties of Lycium ruthenicum Murr.Crude polysaccharide LRP was extracted by the method of water dissolution and ethanol precipitation. The remaining debris of water extraction were extracted with alkali, a new crude polysaccharide LRAP was obtained. Then the ion-exchange and gel-permeation chromatography was used to isolate and purify the crude polysaccharides to afford two polysaccharides, named LRP4-A and LRAP5-A. The physic-cochemical properties of LRP4-A and LRAP5-A were determined using GC, HPLC, UV and IR (Table1). activity. The results showed that there are some decided differences between them. It could provide a basis for the structure-activity relationship of Lycium polysaccharide.
