Life cycle assessment (LCA) was a tool which quantitatively analyzed and evaluated the environmental impact of a product, process or activity throughout its entire life cycle. Its purpose was to assess the effect on the environment of resource consumption and waste emissions and sought opportunities to improve the environmental impact. This paper was based on the ISO14040which provided the technical framework for life cycle assessment. We adopted operational methods. According to the steps:collection of basic data——inventory Analysis——impact assessment——life cycle interpretation, the life cycle associated with layer chicken production was divided into four stages:feed ingredients production stage, feed processing stage, layer chicken production stage, and transportation stages.Pollutants were listed during the four stages. Depending on pollutants during four stages, environmental impact (global warming, acidification, eutrophication, photochemical oxidation) was evaluated during the four stages. Finally, we obtained the size of the pressure on environment related to layer chicken production systems throughout the life cycle to facilitate a comprehensive evaluation. The main results were as follows:1) Divided according to the impact categories:environmental pollution contribution of acidification, global warming, eutrophication, photochemical ozone synthesis was65.44%,23.38%,6.93%,4.25%respectively。2) Divided according to the stage:the total environment impact of layer chicken production, feed ingredient production, transportation, the feed processing stage was53.68%,43.36%,2.28%,0.67%respectively.
