Nephropathogenic Infectious Bronchitis is a highly contagious disease caused by kidney type IBV which mainly harm the kidney of chickens. With the increasing incidence rate in recent years, the disease has brought enormous losses of poultry husbandry all over the world. On the basis of traditional Chinese medical theory and the characteristics of kidney type infectious bronchitis,11kinds of Chinese herbs were chosen to form the compound Chinese herbal medicine. The paper study the effect of compound Chinese herbs in the prevention and treatment of Nephropathogenic Infectious Bronchitis on chickens. Two experiments included.(1) The anti-virus effect of compound Chinese herbal medicine in vitro11010-day-old SPF chicken embryos were divided into4groups:compound Chinese herbal medicine group、Ribavirin group、positive control group and negative control group. Compound Chinese herbal medicine group was divided into5groups and the Ribavirin group was divided into4groups according to the different drug concentration. Drugs of different concentration were mixed with the same dose of100EID50IBV. After reaction for1h, in37℃, the mixed liquor was injected into embryos. Then we record the mortality of the embryos and test the hemagglutination titer. Then results were concluded. The mortality of compound Chinese herbal medicine groups with concentration of100、50、30、20、10mg/mL were10%,40%,50%,50%and50%. Compound Chinese herbal medicine group with concentration of100mg/mL shown great significant deviation compared with positive control group(P<0.01), which indicated that compound Chinese herbal medicine at100mg/mL has the remarkable effect to kill the IBV, and better than Ribavirin at the same consentration.(2) The anti-virus effect of compound Chinese herbal medicine in vivo15021-day-old SPF chickens were casually divided into five groups:group Ⅰ with50mg/mL compound Chinese herbal medicine prevention, group Ⅱ with50mg/mL compound Chinese herbal medicine treatment, group Ⅲ with0.1mg/mL Ribavirin treatment, group IV as positive control and group V as negative control. Group Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ were inculated with1:100IBV dilution at21day old,0.1mL for everyone. Group I was administered drug at18day old, while group Ⅱ and Ⅲ were treated after inculation. No drug medicated to group Ⅴ. The test proceeded for15days. Records were made with the average weight gain, immune organ index, functional parameter of kidney, lymphocyte transformation rate and histopathological change of kidney. Then results include:compound Chinese herbal medicine has promotive effect on the chicken average weight gain; prevent and reduce damage on immune organ caused by IBV, such as bursa, thymus and spleen; influence and decrease the index of serum uric acid, urea nitrogen and creatinine of infected chickens, which means effective protection of kidney function. Meanwhile compound Chinese herbal medicine can elevate lymphocyte transformation and improve the immune function significantly; prevent the kidney epithelial cells from virus’attack and reduce the damage to kidney.
