Acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is caused by a variety of direct and indirect issues to the lung except cardiogenic factors which result in oxygen deficiency or an acute or progrssive respiratory failure and the mortality is high. The analysis of clinical research data about ARDS published from1967to1994investigating3264patients shows the mortality is about50%high. Risk factors, such as infection, toxic shock, organ failure, trauma and postoperation et al for ARDS increased the incidence of ALI/ARDS. The underlying pathogenesis of ARDS is still not clear, Although modern medicine has made some basic treatment plans, but did not significantly reduced ALI/ARDS disease mortality. It is difficult for modern medicine to treatment ARDS. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has significant advantages in treating ALI/ARDS and also has good curative effects that proved and reported by clinic research. Objective:This study aims to observe the therapeutic effect of supplementing qi and activating blood circulation on relieving symptoms and the effects of laboratory index, changes of x-ray film, respiratory ventilation parameters. And providing a new idea for treating ALI/ARDS.Methods:1. Through the literature study to summarizing recent advances and pathogenesis of T. C. M and Western Medicine in treating ALI/ARDS. And discussing theoretical basis and feasibility.2. This clinic research study included40patients. Patients were randomly divided into experimental group and control group. Experimental group using Si junzi Tang Jiawei and routine western medicine therapy while control group using routine western medicine therapy only, then continuous observation for seven days. Evaluating the Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndromes, score of x-ray chest film, oxyhemoglobin saturation and index of respiratory mechanics before and after the treatment.Results:1. The total effective rate of the experimental group is90%, and the total effective rate of experimental group is45%, The experimental group have a better antipruritic effect than control group(P<O.05). Compared the two groups on total effective rate, there has a statistics significance(P<0.05).2. All of the two groups have a marked improvement on Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndromes and oxyhemoglobin saturation, pulmonary compliance improved and PIP、MPaw decreased. There has a significant statistical difference between the two groups except moist rales and score of chest x-ray film. Conclusions:Using supplementing qi and activating blood circulation(Sijunzi Tang Jiawei) combined routine western medicine therapy have a better therapeutic effect than using routine western medicine therapy only. It can obviously improve the symptom and signs, the index of blood gas analysis and the respiratory ventilation parameters.
