Magnolia officinalis is the dry hide, shoot cortex or root barkof Magnolia officinalis Rehd. et Wils. or Magnolia officinalisRehd.et Wils. var.biloba Rehd. et Wils. on Magnolia plants. It hasthese have effects on antisepsis,anti-inflammation,anti-virus,anti-gastric ulcer, anti-oxidation,is a clinical commonly usedaromatic herbs eliminating dampness.Through consulting documentand market research finding that Magnolia Officinalis has ratingStandard but there has not for cortex magnoliae officinalis.Thejudgment method in traditional experience to the inferiors andsuperiors of Chinese herbal pieces mainly from size color sectionmoisture and impurity and so on.This quality control usuallydeficiency of certain objectivity because of human factors. However, modern scientific method has comprehensive evaluation in thesesquantitative index of the quality of Chinese herbal pieces fromtheses ways from content of active components, characteristicfingerprint and limits of harmful substances as heavy metals andpesticides. In order to provide scientific reference for carryingout classification management of pieces and safety use in clinics. In this study, the Sample from Hubei En shi and Sichuan Dou jiangyan in genuine producing area and Shanxi An kang in production area. Its medicinal parts is the dry hide. According to the criterion of the People’s Republic of China Pharmacopoeia Appendix for thedetermination methods on heavy metals and pesticides. Looking forthe relationship between the different standard of magnoliaeofficinalis and pieces on the residue of heavy metals andorganochlorine pesticides pesticides from the perspective ofmedication safety, providing the scientific foundation forestablishing classification management of pieces and safety use inclinics. This study including these contents:1.Qualitative Analysis of different producing areas andstandard of magnoliae officinalis and pieces by using colorimetricand arsenic stain method. The results showed that the content oflead salt and arsenic salt in the high qualitative grade more thanthe low one, decoction pieces were lower than medicinal materials.2.The pretreatment of sample by using microwave digestionmethod and the determination of the content of heavy metals suchasPb, Gd, Cu, As, Hg by using AAS. The results showed that besidesthe content of Pb in Hubei En shi and Sichuan Dou jiang yan medicinalmaterials more than the limitation requirement in ChinesePharmacopoeia(2010) namely below or equal to5μg/g, others meetthe requirement. All the content of Gd, Cu, As, Hg up to therequirement. These content of heavy metals are all lowerin piecesthan medicinal materials and high grade is more than low one bothbetween in pieces and medicinal materials according to thetraditional grading method.3.Determination of different producing areas and standard ofmagnoliae officinalis and pieces by using GC-ECD. The resultsshowed that all ones are meet the requirement of ChinesePharmacopoeia(2010). But α-BHC,γ-BHC,PP’-DDE, PP’-DDD, OP’-DDT, PP’-DDT and PCNB have not been detected. The content of β-BHC andδ-BHC do not change with qualitative grade. The results indicatethat traditional grading method is maybe not suitable to themedicinal slices classification has certainly limitations. Thelower residue of organochlorine pesticides has also bring sometrouble to making the standard of medicinal slices classification.
