Liu Miqing is one outstanding representative of Chinese translation theorists.Among the translation theories he proposed, the cultural psychology translationtheory is shining, which has both deepened and broadened cultural translation studies.Much of it happens to have the same views with the prosperously developing culturalpsychology.Su Shi is a giant in the history of both literature and culture in China. Heexperienced a lot of difficulty when he worked as a civil official. Besides, Su Shi wasdeeply influenced by philosophies of Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism. Thesemade his thoughts and cultural psychology change a lot during different periods of hislife and very typical, which asks for much attention. Therefore, translators must makefull understanding of his thoughts and cultural psychology behind lines whentranslating.This thesis mainly analyzes the characteristics of Su Shi’s literary works andcompares different translation versions of some Su ci from the perspective of LiuMiqing’s cultural psychology translation theory. Liu’s cultural psychology translationtheory and its great power in directing translation practice of Chinese classic works interms of semanteme deciding, illocutionary force acquisition and textual meaningdeciding are introduced and illustrated. Through this study, the author is intended tointroduce and publicize Liu’s cultural psychology translation theory as well as presentthe author’s opinions on and suggestions for improvement of this theory.
