A Report On The Translation Of Chinese Ceramic Culture (Excerpt) Under The Guidance Of Cultural Translation Theory

With the development of globalization and the advancement of China's international status,China seizes the development opportunities,actively communicates with other countries and learns from each other,so as to constantly improve its cultural soft power.The spread of Chinese culture is an effective way for other countries to understand China,and translation is a bridge for Chinese culture to go abroad.For cultural translation,the translation of cultural information is a major difficulty.Therefore,guided by Bassnett's cultural translation theory,this report explores the translation methods of cultural translation.Through translation practice,this report aims to verify the adaptability of cultural translation theory in the research for cultural translation,and the author hopes to accumulate some translation experience based on the previous study,so as to improve her translation ability.Taking some chapters of the book Chinese Ceramic Culture written by ceramic expert Chen Yuqian as translation practice materials,the author analyzes the translation process and summarizes the translation methods under the guidance of Bassnett's cultural translation theory,in order to accumulate translation experience.Guided by this theory,this paper analyses the translation methods of culture-loaded word,four-character phrase,classic quotation as well as long and difficult sentence in combination with specific cases,showing the ways to realize the cultural equivalence in cultural translation.Finally,limitations and suggestions have been concluded,which can provide a reference for future studies and studying trend for the author.The results are as follows: 1)Cultural factor plays a very important role in the translation process.2)Although the cultural translation theory also requires to achieve equivalence in content and form,the content and form of source text can sometimes be broken in order to achieve cultural equivalence,so the translator should adopt translation methods flexibly.3)Under the guidance of cultural translation theory,the translator's purpose is to achieve cultural equivalence between source language and target language.Therefore,appropriate translation methods,such as literal translation,literal translation with explanation,liberal translation,transliteration with annotation/explanation,omission,consolidation and splitting should be chosen to achieve cultural communication.4)Cultural translation covers a wide range of cultural knowledge,so its successful translation depends on the translator's cultural knowledge accumulation and practice.Cultural translation theory highlights the importance of culture in translation,so in the process of translation,attention should be paid to the communication between two cultures instead of being limited to the conversion between languages.In the translation process,text context determines the choice of translation method.Therefore,in the translation process,the translator needs to make a muti-dimension analysis,so as to get a translation text that can be accepted by the target language reader.
