Communication, a newly emerged discipline in the last century, has exerted deepinfluence on many fields of studies, but rare researches are accomplished in languagefields, especially in simultaneous interpretation. Thus the common communicativenature of both Information Theory and Simultaneous Interpreting(SI)process is ofgreat interest to the author. Hence, whether the cross-discipline of Information Theorycan be applied to make explanations of SI studies came into the author’s mind.Omission as a controversial strategy is the focus in this thesis. In order to find theanswers to the research questions, an analytical and observational investigation iscarried out. With an elaborate analysis of the vocal corpus of seven panel discussionsin “Summer Davos”(the World Economic Forum), the author tries to reconfirm thenecessity of omission, what are and how the factors affecting the use of it. After theinvestigation, the author hopefully, tries to prove that researches on SI phenomenonunder communication theories is feasible and of much directive and practicalsignificance for both the language learners and SI training instructors.
