“Half A and half B” is a extremely common format in modern Chinese. While lookingthrough academic articles, we find that the research of it is very rare. The use and studyfrequency of it is completely out of proportion. This paper attempts to study this old format fromtwo new angles: one is to reclassify the parts of speech that involved in this format and the otheris the dynamic development.Firstly, the author put forward her own opinions through the thinking of the parts of speechof “half”. Secondly, the author found out that the vitality and development status of the varioustypes of words are not same and unbalanced by summing up the words that belong to this formatfrom a new aspect. This part is explained by the theory of the bounded–unbounded、categorization and language iconicity. Then, the author studied this format from the dynamic development process and found thatthe sequence of the words that entering into this format and the current development status arenot match with each other. However, under the background of rapid development ofcontemporary network language, the different parts of speech show different trends ofdevelopment. The theory of cognitive linguistics is used in this part. Lastly, the authorsummarize the characteristics of the development status of this format and predicted the futuredevelopment trend of half A half B format.
