Recently more and more foreign literary works have been introduced to China and among all the foreign language text translations,the English-Chinese translation of novels still plays a dominant role.This paper is a translation report dealing with the translation of the novel Half Girlfriend by an Indian writer Chetan Bhagat.This story is about a couple of young men and women meeting on a campus.They finally live a happy and sweet life after a series of difficulties and obstacles.This report is aimed at providing an excellent love story for the readers in China and helping them to enjoy the unique charm of Chetan Bhagat's work.Meanwhile,another purpose of this report is to abundant the research on using Functional Equivalence Theory to guide the translation practice.This report consists of four parts,which are the brief introduction of the translation practice,the analysis of translation process,the case study of this translation practice and the conclusion of gains and lessons in the translation practiceFrom the perspective of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory and based on an analysis of this novel's linguistic features,this paper centers on the guiding role of the functional equivalence theory in the process of culturally-loaded words and reporting words translation and adopts literal translation,free translation,amplification and omission to finfish the translation task.
