Language performance is the information carrier of official document. The key to conveyinformation of the official documents relies on the organizing and performing of languageprecisely and efficiently. Rhetoric of official document refers to using the appropriate languagepattern to carry the information in writing. The use of rhetoric properly can be an effectivesupplement to the language nature of omission and insufficiency, therefore improve thereadability and communication efficiency. The principle of rhetoric for official document is torespect the facts, to be in accordance with the logic, to be relevant to the context and in accurategrammar. The rhetoric for official document is mainly negative-rhetoric, including words, theselecting of sentence pattern, the use of figure of speech as well as the rhetoric of chapterstructure. As each kind of official document has its individual features, there will be differentemphasis regarding the use of rhetoric in documents. This thesis use both positive and negativeexamples to study the rhetorical features and application rules of the three kinds of commonofficial documents: Notice, Comment and Report in the perspective of individuation based onexisting studies of the commonness of official article language style.
