As a concise language construction, N+N sequence plays an important role in various languages.In everyday English, N+N sequence, which is used with high frequency, enjoys plenty ofmorphological and semantic diversifications. It reflects the change of language in reality, shows thecompositionality of language in the raw, and services to expand language. N+N sequences appearfrequently in the texts to be interpreted in translation practice.There is such a large quantity of N+N sequence in English that it has become one of the focusedstudies in language processing and concept studies. It has drawn special attention from many scholarswho carry out a series of researches from different aspects. The two components of the sequence arenot combined together at will. There usually exists explicit or implicit logical relation between the twocomponents which is important in the understanding of the sequence. The aim of this research is toexplore the translation regularities of N+N sequences with different logical relations.During the research, a collection of prose in English with translation in Chinese and3articlesare selected as source texts, from which all the N+N sequences are extracted. After eliminatingrepeated examples,295N+N sequences are finally obtained. Based on the classification method oflogical relations within N+N sequence of Douglas Biber,21types of logical relations are fixed as theclassification of N+N sequence in this thesis. All the selected examples are categorized into differenttypes and translated into Chinese with the methods of Literal translation, Amplification, Omission,Restructuring and Free translation. Finally, the distribution of sequences with different logicalrelations, the translation regularities of N+N sequences according to their logical relations arecarefully observed.Through statistic and empirical analysis, the following conclusions are achieved:1) thedistribution of N+N sequences of certain categories of relations is closely connected with the contentsand style of the texts;2) In translating N+N sequences in English into Chinese, Literal translation isthe first method to choose;3) Amplification and Omission are also important methods employed inthe translation of N+N sequences;4) Regularities in translating N+N sequences belonging to the10types of logical relations are summarized.
