Development Of Public View On Dignity Questionnaire

Dignity corresponds to an affective feeling which is experienced when one or the group one belongs to is respectable and worship in his own mind. Based on the analysis of previous researches, we proposed a theoretical model from public view of dignity by literature review and open-questionnaire survey. The model we raised is a hierarchical one first divided by two dimension, dignity-of-self and dignity-in-relation, which could then be separated into eight elements, human dignity, volition dignity, money-power dignity, role dignity, value dignity, family dignity, group dignity and nation dignity. On the basis of open questionnaire survey results and relevant experts, we construct the primitive public view on dignity questionnaire. We acquire the consistent dimensions through factor analysis. We also verify the structure of the public view on dignity. We develop the formal questionnaire and verify its reliability and validity. The results showed that the scale has good reliability and validity. We use the formal questionnaire to investigate the public the view on dignity to find some characters of them and we also test the structure of the public’structure of the view of dignity by Structural Equation Model. The main results of the study are as follows:(1) The model we raised is a hierarchical one first divided by two dimension, dignity-of-self and dignity-in-relation, which could then be separated into five elements, human dignity, money-power dignity, role-value dignity, group-family dignity and nation dignity.(2) The questionnaire of the public view of dignity has been proved to be of good reliability and validity and can be used as an effective tool to measure the public view of dignity.(3) In general, the public view of dignity is higher, Average is more than 3. All dimensions of the view of dignity’ order is dignity-in-relation>dignity-of-self.(4) By gender, female scored higher than male on all the dimensions of the public view of dignity, and significant differences were observed on dignity and dignity-in-relation and all their factors. (5)by age, subjects spanning 20 and 25 years old scored higher than any other age spans on money-power dignity, but lower on other dimensions(6) By education, subjects who received junior education and below scored higher than others on money-power dignity, and subjects who graduated from colleges scored higher on role dignity,family dignity and group dignity.(7) By career, migrant worker scored higher than students on money-power dignity, with self-employed even higher than them, but on family dignity and group dignity, students and employees of governments scored higher than migrant workers.
