The Research On CPC’s Public Opinion Platform In Chongqing During CPC And KMT’s Second Cooperation

The July7th Incident happened in1937, after that, Japan launched an all-round offensive war against China and China was at the critical juncture of life or death. Under the initiative of the CPC and at the insistence of CPC, CPC and KMT were determined to end the decade-long civil war and start the second cooperation for the purpose of saving the national crisis. Different from the first cooperation, this cooperation was the outside-Party cooperation. This means that CPC and KMT created a set of effective cooperation models and mechanisms on the basis of maintaining their own organization mechanism to function independently. This set of cooperation models and mechanisms include a typical ingredient:the establishment of the public opinion platform for CPC and KMT.Whether the press made efforts and whether their efforts were in a right way have become important factors that can determine the result of the anti-Japanese war and the national reconstruction; Jiang Jieshi have said that:"Nowadays, our nation is trying her best to resist foreign aggression and the press is shouldering extremely heavy responsibilities to struggle for the country.The role press plays is no less important than that of the soldiers who charge forward in the frontline." Just because of this, CPC took Xinhua Daily and masses issued publicly in Chongqing as the platform and kindly invited KMT and common people to participate in the discussion. CPC hoped that this discussion could guide public opinion on Anti-Japanese War. Besides, they also hoped that this discussion could become a public opinion platform for the second cooperation between CPC and KMT and this platform should be led by CPC and KMT and be actively participated in by common people.During the8-year war, CPC and KMT used this public opinion platform as the center and they prompted the establishment and development of the Anti-Japanese National United Front through publicizing their political opinions on press and organizing social activities. At the same time, the effective operation of this platform has also played an important role in prompting the cooperation between CPC and KMT and in making them persisted in the nationwide resistance.Numerous scholars have conducted researches on the cooperation between CPC and KMT, while, few of them conducted researches from the perspective of public opinion. What’s more, no one has carried on a systemic study of the public opinion platform that is established on the carrier:Xinhua Daily and Masses.History proves that public opinion platform has played an important role in the anti-war period, so the discussion of its specific functions and roles is of great practical significance. Besides, exploring and analyzing how public opinion platform made CPC, KMT and common people united as one to resist foreign aggression during war time is of great historical significance:it can provide a historical basis for the third cooperation between the CPC and KMT in the new period. What’s more, striving to build a platform for cross-strait cooperation and exchanges between political parties is of great practical significance:it can not only promote bipartisanship in the new period but also promote cross-strait reunification.Based on the relevant ex-research, the author of this paper collected and studied the relevant dada and sorted out the operation and implementation mechanism of the public opinion platform for the second cooperation between CPC and KMT in a systematic way. Besides, the author also summarized the features and functions of the Research on CPC’s Public Opinion Platform in Chongqing. Generally speaking, this paper consists of three chapters:Introduction, text (four parts) and conclusion.In the first chapter, the author clarifies why he decides to choose this topic as the research target. Besides, he also retrieved and reviewed the relevant literature at home and abroad, elucidated the research thinking and research methods, and defined the relevant concepts.The second chapter includes four parts. The first part is mainly about the establishment and development of the public opinion platform of the Research on CPC’s Public Opinion Platform in Chongqing. In this part, the author mainly expounded the background for this public opinion platform and the development history of this public opinion platform. The background is expounded from three aspects:meeting the need of the anti-Japanese war, meeting the need to make KMT-CPC cooperation smooth and successful and meeting the need of propagandizing. The development history is illustrated from3phases:creative discussion and formation phase, the consolidation and development phase, and the ending phase.The second part is mainly about how this public opinion platform works in Chongqing. This part is not only the key points but also the difficult points. This part begins with CPC and KMT’s two biggest conflicts on cooperation:the controversy on political issues and the dispute and cooperation on military affairs. The author clarifies how this public opinion platform works in Chongqing mainly through analyzing these two parties’opinions toward these two conflicts on Xinhua daily and Masses,The third part is mainly about the functions and features of public opinion platform in Chongqing. Based on the analysis in the second part, the author argued that the functions of public opinion platform are:directing public opinion; inspiring peoples’spirit; condensing common feelings of people; safeguarding and maintaining the anti-Japanese national united front. The typical features are:unity and struggle; inclusiveness and pluralism; the unification of principles and be flexibility; distinct party spirit and intense affinity of the people.The fourth part is mainly about the significance of this public opinion platform. Based on the discussion and analysis in the second and third part, the author summarized the experiential significance and the practical significance of this pulic opinion platform. This significance can shed light on and provide reference to the third cooperation between CPC and KMT in the new period and it can also promote the national reunification.In the third chapter, the author expounded the starting point of this thesis and proved that the argumentation is rationalized. The author hoped that this research can also enlighten the development in the Taiwan Strait in the new period.
