Anhua Xu and Liwen Ma are recognized as representative figures in Hong Kong "New wave cinema" field and the sixth-generation mainland directors. As female directors, their works are characterized by relying on their female identity and distinct work style in the Chinese filmdom. Meanwhile, they pay common attention on the vulnerable groups. This essay’s focus is on the differences of expressions that have applied in their movies, and then clarifying the images presented in their movies to summarize and compare the similarities and differences in the presenting style. By means of such comparison, further inspiration will be reflected that could be used as a reference in the future Chinese film creation.The article is composed by three parts including introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction section briefly describes the creation of the two directors, pointed out the representativeness of the two directors from the movie selection and comparability. The main body is divided into four chapters. The first chapter discusses the vulnerable groups and vulnerable groups movies, and sorted out the performance of vulnerable groups in the movies. The second chapter mainly focuses on the similar performance of vulnerable groups in their movies. The third chapter begins to explore the differences. The last chapter is the comprehensive analysis the reasons of the existence of similarities and differences. The conclusion part gives affirmation and support for the movies reflecting the vulnerable groups in society. Their success also proves that this style is a valuable and bold adventure, which would bring more enlightenment and develop wider creative visual and space.
