Nowadays, as China has become more influential in the world, more and more high school and middle school students from other countries have begun to learn the Chinese language and culture. The founding of the Confucius institutes and Confucius Classrooms has increased the international spread of Chinese language and culture, resulting in new textbooks for the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language. The author is currently teaching in St. Mary’s Confucius Classroom (Ashland School District, Ashland High School, Oregon, United States). The author has firsthand data regarding the usage of the Confucius Headquarter textbook Learn Chinese With Me. This thesis was written from the author’s own teaching experience in order to help improve the textbooks for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
