It is very impressive that performers can recite Pi to the thousandth digit even to the tenth thousand accurately. Some of them could memorize scores of irregular materials, such as names of people and places, sentences, numbers, alphabets or English words etc. This is mainly because they are skilled in a set of fast and efficient memory skills. As the basis of language, the vocabulary plays an important role in college students’English learning. Words are abstract symbols, which are not only difficult but boring to memorize. Then how to memorize English vocabularies quickly and efficiently becomes the focus. All these give birth to my study of the right-brain rapid vocabulary memory method, which is based on imagination and people produce the image and consonant association between English letters deliberately. The vivid image and unique consonant are regarded as a tool and carrier of the memory storage as well as a clue of the information extraction with a purpose to impress the learners and help them memorize the vocabulary.In order to examine the impact and efficiency of the right-brain rapid vocabulary memory method, an empirical research of the method in the field of English vocabulary teaching in a university was carried out.80college students from a department of Z University were selected to participate in the experiment. With a questionnaire survey, written and oral examinations, Pre and post investigation and tests were used to the same group of college students. The results show that the right-brain rapid vocabulary memory method can improve the students’words memorizing efficiency of about40%and has a certain promotion value. As far as gender is concerned, females have more advantages in language and memory. While in contrast of different grades, no significant differences are found on learning attitude, interest, vocabulaiy memory method or test scores. However, the research also shows that the right-brain rapid vocabulary memory method has interference in the learning time, associating ability, concept shift, learning interest, and habit of reviw. The main reasons lie in the learners’original habit-keeping of learning attitude and memory, constraint of memory means proficiency on memory effect, restriction of rational imagination on memory process, influence of teachers’ guidance and teaching level. Strategies of improving the right-brain rapid vocabulary memory method are given:the memory codes and skills must be mastered, interest should be aroused, the attention to the decisive role of revision in long-term memory must be paid, and the right-brain rapid vocabulary memory method should be combined with traditional memory methods. Only in this way can one recite words easily and efficiently and learn English positively and happily.
