In the late Qing dynasty our nation came to the important turning point from ancientsociety to modern life where also was the point of transition of the ideas and conciousnessof our chiese people. This transition and the changes of intellectuals’ opinion of chiesepolitics, economy, culture, philosophy caused by this transition had decided the orientationof our whole nation and had figured out in maximum extent the road leading to modern lifein these days.As a mirror of reflecting the changing process, Shang Hai had been the most importantentrance of western knowledge and the most possible gathering place where intellectualshad trapped in thinking, introspecting,suspecting and complicting with themselves. Andaccording to all of these changs, the chang of ideology about time and space was thesharpest and deepest. Because the chang had been not only some king of knowledgeproblem but had been destined to make great effects of the public’s daily life which wasconnected to the spatial geometry and traditon calender thing,and even would influencedour ideas of the so-called circulating history and the method of modelling ancestors to aso-called great society. Well, in the late ninetinth century,intellectuals had begun to believein evolutionism which aroused a completing world and developing history.In this thesis we will search and find out the clues and indications of the changes thatwe have talked above. As intellectuals had written many essays and comments during theirlife which can help us to understand their feelings and ideas. More luckly,they hadcreated lots of novels, popular poems and study scripts about ShangHai, in which we canpoint out their view of those changs easier.
